Do you ever come across graphic deisgn that is so sexy and sumptuous you just want to lick it? I came across the website for the heads of state about a year ago when i was trying to teach myself some css. their wesite is so simple and beautiful, i just fell in love with its design. and then they have some beautifuly typographic rock posters for some of my favorite bands! i wish i could buy them all. i did buy one of those beauties and when it arrived i didn't want to lick it anymore. i wanted to enshrine it and hang it on the wall. it looks absolutely gorgeous in my small little apt above the p22 offices.
Clearly these people have too much time on their hands...

No, it's not a Photoshop gimmick, it's much cooler than that...
a) photograph your work area, minus your computer
b) carefully crop the image of your work area
c) set the cropped image as your desktop background (or "wallpaper")
d) amaze your friends
So I'm scouring the web, trying to find hot deals on airfare and I realize that I'm suddenly wading through so many sites that I lose my breath. (I know I can't be the only person that loves to travel.) I have dates in mind, but am willing to change for the right amount. Any suggestions?
Hey, if the blog is here, I might as well use it.
I'm reading: Mindscan by Robert J. Sawyer
I'm tagging video at: Vidtags
I'm drinking: Hot Chocolate from Starbucks
I'm enjoying: My new Moleskine
I'm working: Way, way, way too much.
There are some things that you just shouldn't do, even if you can.

Ok people. Listen up. This is so cool. Completely customizable, totally user-friendly and absolutely addictive. When you export the EPS it adds the extension .HTML, simply cut that out and you now have an illustrator color palette!
FUNNY

Must know a little about advertising history to really enjoy it.

USEFUL
Anyone who uses Tiger or Panther who has found that suddenly files don't open in the apps they really want them to open in might find this thread useful. I had the problem of Illustrator EPS and Photoshop EPS being seing as the same and all opening in Illustrator. Basically it comes down to removing the LaunchServices prefs and cache files. But, make sure you read the thread.

When the AIGA screws up at 72 point it should be documented. AIGA does everything perfectly, so this anomaly reminds me they're only mortal. =^p

spam spam spam wonderful spam.
Looking for the logo at www.britvic.com I found several PDFs with this same vector rendering.

I hope the C is meant to look like a piece of fruit, I can't think of any other reason why it should be that shape.
I've been wondering for some time what sort of thing to use this facility for.
It occurred to me that I collect various "found type" images and dodgy logos all the time, so that'll be my theme… mostly.
Dear Adobe,
Congratulations on your sweet purchase! Now that the merger is complete, please be kind to Macromedia.
Fireworks is 100x better than ImageReady. So make sure you know which limb to amputate before the anesthesiologist arrives.
Oh, and in case it wasn't clear, Golive is teh suk. Dreamweaver is the good one... Chop accordingly.
Keep Photoshop for photo editing and Fireworks for web production. You put the PHOTO in Photoshop, now don't make it EVERYTHINGshop.
Don't try to turn SWF into a giant PDF engine. PDF is cool and SWF is cool, but for different reasons. If the twain meet, just make sure it's a good idea first, okay.

Alvin Lustig was a renaissance man. A designer that didn't shy away from any media and seemingly mastered any in which he worked. Students today -- that is, anyone that enjoys learning from those who have gone before -- should spend time and study his work.
From my 1911 Encylopædia Britannica:

Here, the double space after a period is a helpful marker to a reader of the tightly leaded text (look at the attachment to see the whole page). Modern book designers would never use 2 spaces after a period, but in a set of books that even densely set expands to 30 volumes, I can see why they would want to economize.

I passed the written car test with 2 wrong out of 35 questions, and passed the practical driving test with only 4 marks, (mostly for not looking in the mirrors in the correct order or something) which is considered very good since if you get 17 marks you fail.
Passed my motorcycle with only 1 incorrect answer out of the 35. Let's see how the practical goes very soon....

So, you all know Flickr is the bomb. (Yes, Flickr is the single best example of why not just content, but user-created content is king.)
Due to the genius of the open API that taps into the Flickr pool of images, the blogger(s) at MetaateM have tapped into a method of Flickr typing. Try it out...
