New to Typophile? Accounts are free, and easy to set up.
Who's your daddy, I ask of you?
Here's the transformation of joe schmo Dan Gayle into the Typecon2007 1980s party best male costume. Rather than the cocaine and New Order vibe, or the Flashdance vibe of the others, I instead opted for the 80s midwestern white trash vibe. (The hat says Happy Days, by the way...)
It was awesome, because it added about 20 years to me, and no one recognized me at first glance.

I have a Blog, but not here...
I wanted to insert an -- (en-dash) in the title, but it doesn't work...

Note: Comment on the Design forum about the incorrect use of apostrophe on the logos for the '08 Presidential Campaign
please help me figure out the name of this font...The script is Chopin Script. But what is the one that is in all caps? Check out the capital e. It's like a lowercase e. It's pretty, right? but what is the font called?? Thanks!!!

Mike Parker related this story from the early days Helvetica. A sales rep contacted him and says that forever they have been asked to push Trade Gothic, and now wants to know what is this Helvertical. Mike Parker replies, "you've got it all wrong, it's Horizontica."

We'll be thinking of you Yves, Dan and Christian.
Overheard: "The mountain is out." in reference to the (beautiful) clear skies here this weekend that allow you to see the mountain. (Mt. Raineer?)
Mmmmmmm. Wood type is making me hungry. Or is it just lunchtime?
Wood is somehow appropriate to the Pac Northwest.
Digging Pete McCracken's talk on Portland poster design. Seen: Decemberists, Wolf Mother, Menomena, Viva Voce, Helio Sequence and lots of others.
I wish his sites had more of the posters he showed... but here are the links nonetheless.

Listening to Mark Simonson and Carl Crossgrove describe the lost display cut of Helvetica.
Design is a fight against ugly. -- Massimo Vignelli describing his modernist design philosophy in the Helvetica film. Great juxtaposition of characters versus David Carson, purveyor of ugly.
Alright, not typography related, but cool for design nerds nevertheless. Check out this post from PingMag on Atsushi Tomura, who creates incredible foam monster costumes (apparently, people dressed up in monster outfits is less odd in Japan than in the U.S.). There's something about the vivid colors, googly eyes, and sharp white teeth that makes these creatures lovable in a surreal, nightmarish way.
... And no idea if I packed the right layers for Seattle weather.
Since I can only manage one blog at a time, I'm actually starting to regularly post at the one I've had for awhile. Thanks to prodding from Yves, I'm up to one a week here....
Interstate has been sold into the client as their new font, however, for consistancy I'd like to recommend the use of Interstate throughout the print applications rather than use a secondary font for body copy. This requires hard evidence to convince the client to move away from a serif typeface (currently Times New Roman)
Your guidance please ...

How about this as an example of stripped down signage.
