The Brander: The new online magazine portrays brands and their creators
Who is the person behind successful brands? Starting March 10 on www.thebrander.com, stories will appear about people who have created brands with a lot of zeal and run them successfully – sometimes even turning into a brand themselves. An online magazine launched by Zurich branding agency Branders.
The Brander provides insights into worlds that are not accessible to everyone. Insights into the world of small, large, well-known, as yet unknown, local and international brands. To this end The Brander provides in-depth articles, high-quality photographs and footage, as well as large photo galleries to highlight the people and the stories behind the brand. Because good brands tell a story.

The documentary film, Making Faces: Metal Type in the 21st Century, is now ready for DVD release and select theatrical screenings.
Making Faces follows the work process of the late Canadian graphic artist Jim Rimmer through the steps in creating a metal font. The film is shot and directed by P22 founder Richard Kegler in HD Video. It started as an idea to document the making of the first ever font that would be simultaneously released in metal and digital formats. The font "RTF Stern" was released in 2008 through P22 type foundry with Jim Rimmer casting metal fonts to order for much of 2008.
One of the most interesting aspects of the Royal Wedding invitation, from a design perspective, is the choice of typeface. The invitation has been set in the Perpetua® Italic typeface – and there are undoubtedly marked reasons behind this selection. Firstly, there is nothing more quintessentially British than a Royal Wedding – and this demands an equally quintessential British typeface. Perpetua Italic fits this bill expertly. It is a timeless design and the first collaboration of two of Britain’s pillars of the typographic arts, Stanley Morison and Eric Gill.
Another newsletter and another CheapProFonts newcomer: David Kerkhoff is an up-and-coming type designer specializing in handmade and grungy written scripts - some of which are destined for our usual multilingual treatment.
Please enjoy this bunch of recently released quality fonts - all available at our usual low price of only $10 each! :)

Shady Characters is go!
I've just launched a website called Shady Characters looking at the stories behind some unusual marks of punctuation such as the pilcrow and the interrobang.
The first long post (about the early history of the pilcrow) has just gone up at http://www.shadycharacters.co.uk. You can follow the site on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shady-Characters/135325489866494) or Twitter (http://twitter.com/shadychars). The plan is to update it every week or two with new material, time permitting.
Please take a look, and don't hesitate to get in touch with comments, criticism or anything else!
With a vintage Selectric typewriter as his muse, Matthew Butterick set out to make a monospaced font that preserved the liveliness & comfortable readability of a proportional design. FB Alix was inspired by IBM’s Prestige, a ’50s stalwart, but features true cursive italics, not sloped variants. An OpenType set of proportional alternates allows for more conventional text fitting while retaining the classic typewriter look.

Delve Fonts presents Cortina, by Joachim Müller-Lancé.
Available now at: http://www.delvefonts.com/cortina.html
Serendipity often occurs in typefaces from the hand of international, award-winning type designer, Joachim Müller-Lancé. The design of Cortina was inspired by a small shape spotted by coincidence: a tiny triangular tab in a software panel that resembled a futuristic ‘A’. Like a tailor starting a suit from a button he found, Joachim developed the entire concept from this idea into a family of three styles: Cortina Base, Slate, and Plate. Each is modeled on the same conceptual form sharing proportions, but with different features.

Questions? Email author Kristin Cullen:
Intrigued by a certain freewheeling eclecticism found in ATF faces from the turn of the 20th century, Juliet Shen constructed her own unabashedly quirky homage. Vivid character lends distinction, creating a notably clear text performance, even at small sizes. Named for Henry Lewis Bullen, influential printer & ATF librarian, talented visionary & erstwhile rogue, the typeface Bullen is likewise both serious and offbeat; FB 2011
4 Styles: Regular, Italic, Bold, and Bold Italic
Bullen is available as OpenType fonts with tabular figures, arbitrary fractions, and extended language support.
