Skolar Cyrillic

David Brezina's successful type family Skolar has been expanded with a full Cyrillic character set. It supports 32 languages using Cyrillic script, besides most of the Slavic languages, many Asian and non-Slavic languages are covered too. It also supports Serbian italic alternates and “new” Bulgarian stylistics. Skolar Cyrillic has been designed as a close complement to Latin with the help of the experienced designer and consultant Alexandra Korolkova, and it has already earned its first awards at Modern Cyrillic 2009 and Granshan 2009.

Sirba, a seriffed typeface family with a friendly personality, was conceived especially for the demands in complex text environments like dictionaries, academic texts annual reports, novels and magazines. It has many design features that were particularly designed with Sirba's purpose in mind. Because of its open counters, the large x-height, short ascenders and descenders, this typeface conveys a pleasant reading experience and high legibility even in small sizes. Sirba is a low-contrast typeface, contemporary but with a classical touch, revealing its beauty in design details, such as the asymmetrical bottom serifs, curved bracketing and calligraphically reminiscent terminals.

The newly redesigned, by Marek Pistora, Czech magazine FONT invited José and Veronika to speak amongst other things about their beginnings, influences, approach to design and way of collaboration. The well designed four-page interview also shows some samples of our typefaces in use, such as in various newspapers and books.

The first exhibition of Tipos Latinos 2010 opened in Santiago, Chile, on April 14th 2010. The program of activities included two days of lectures at the Centro Cultural de España. Scaglione was the keynote speaker on the first day, with a lecture entitled "Shaping Types" that focuses on typography for editorial design. On the second day, Isaías Loaiza presented a lecture about corporate fonts and the role of typography in a corporate id program. Veronika is scheduled to give a talk at this years typographic symposium "typetalks" in Brno. This unique one-day event will feature various international speakers lecturing about the beauty of type, typographic history and will share some insight in type design. This display version of Karmina Regular was developed for a particular client with a specific set of requirements in mind. The client is using the full Karmina family for all their communication materials and needed a version for large size applications, as big as billboards. They liked the sturdiness and low contrast of Karmina and didn't want to loose those features too much in the display version. After several presentations and more extreme variants, we nailed the design. The contrast is rather low for a display version, but the overall feel of the typeface is elegant, slim and yet sturdy enough. Both parties are very happy with the result and we look forward to see some applications.

Bree was chosen as main typeface for body and titles in Deco, an ethical and ecologically aware French interior magazine.

In most cases, the body text actually uses Bree's alternate characters to ensure best legibility.

It was designed by Ljubomir Djordjevic from the French design studio Commeunarbre.

The award winning Adelle is a dynamic slab serif designed by Veronika Burian and José Scaglione. While it is conceived specifically for intensive editorial use, its personality and flexibility make it a real multiple-purpose typeface. The intermediate weights deliver a very legible and neutral look when used in text sizes, providing the usual robustness expected in a newspaper font. The unobstrusive appearance, excellent texture and slightly dark color allow it to behave flawlesly in continuous text setting, even in the most demanding editorial applications.

We believe that Helvetica is a beautiful typeface, but very deeply rooted in its own era. It is often unsuitably used in contexts that have changed profoundly since its birth. From this initial intention, we coined the ironic payoff ‘The-Moralist-Typeface’.

Czech type designer and typographer, writer, lecturer, the impresario of TypeTalks, and partner at Rosetta Type Foundry. He got Masters degrees in Informatics (Masaryk University, Brno) and Typeface Design (University of Reading, UK). From 2004 to 2007 he also ran his own design studio, with projects in graphic, web, and interface design. He has been working as an associate with Tiro Typeworks and giving various type workshops around Europe.
