New to Typophile? Accounts are free, and easy to set up.
The membership page still is set for 2004 membership. Are any changes planned for 2005, or should I just go ahead and join, pretending that 2004 reads 2005?
(Now we'll see if history repeats itself. The last two times I was ready to get an Uppercase account, the board went down!)

I think it's fairly clear that I should just be given an Uppercase account so that I will never again have to think about joining, which is what seems to cause all of this.
No, seriously, I'll join.

Steve,
Wear gloves when you log in :-)
You have to join again. I would hate to think Typophile was all Petered out.
Oh, that was a bad one--I will hang my head in shame now

We have fun when we go out to restaurants: "The Peter Party will now be seated..."
1 Feb 2005 — 8:05pm
LOL!
8 Feb 2005 — 3:43pm
I just rejoined UppercasePlus for this year and the server didn't crash! I guess it must be only Steve who has the curse :-)

Well, I joined on the 1st, and I don't think there have been any outages since then! So, I guess it was me.

>>We have fun when we go out to restaurants: "The Peter Party will now be seated..."
And people can spend all night asking you to 'pass the salt, Peter'

as long as he doesn't eat a peck of pickled peppers--for that, he would have to pay the piper,
14 Feb 2005 — 6:12pm
I had nothing to do with the last outage, I swear!
14 Feb 2005 — 6:20pm
I did it to get some work done. If you check the Help pages there's a code to bring down the site: \kill{forums}. Takes a while before the guys realize what's happened. Buys me some time.
14 Feb 2005 — 6:37pm
Are you suggesting the forums are powered by TeX?
14 Feb 2005 — 6:44pm
I think you mean TEX, but I don't think so.
15 Feb 2005 — 9:32am
>I had nothing to do with the last outage, I swear!<
Sure Steve, we believe you--as if :-)
15 Feb 2005 — 10:44am
Well, I still don't have my Uppercase login, so maybe that's it.
15 Feb 2005 — 10:49am
I think the login stays the same, you just get 'upgraded' to status 'Uppercase'..
( Maybe you should contact one of the Typophile admins about your 'Uppercase' pending state.? )
15 Feb 2005 — 11:32am
Has it been 2 weeks?
15 Feb 2005 — 3:17pm
I has been two weeks, just. Mind you, I'm not complaining. I'm just noting the coincidence of forum downtime with me trying to become a member.
18 Feb 2005 — 9:32am
Steve? Did you do it again?
:-)
18 Feb 2005 — 10:08am
I swear I cringe every time the forum goes down now, but I assure you I had nothing to do with it! Besides, now we know that Mark knows the secret kill command, so it must've been him.
18 Feb 2005 — 12:34pm
I started and finished three new fonts in the last two days! Oh, well, it was nice while it lasted. :-)
20 Feb 2005 — 1:27pm
how long do you have to wait before your uppercase membership becames active? - - feels like months!
20 Feb 2005 — 4:48pm
mike,
I just joined a few months ago. It did take some time - more than the membership page says. I sent a few emails and it got sorted out.
I did get access and my shirts arrived.
I got the feeling that the guys that run the site have their hands full and they just did not get a chance to set me up and send the stuff out.
So, I am certain you will get upgraded, but can't tell you when.
Glad you joined - the support is important for sites/resources like Typophile.
Regards,
Mike

Typophile is run by a wonderful group of hard-working volunteers who do the best they can with limited time and resources.
20 Feb 2005 — 5:57pm
What Chris and Mike G. said. The membership page is a bit deceptive, but ultimately the payoff is worth it. My membership and goodies took quite a while to kick in, too.
Anyway, we all appreciate your UC contribution.

I think we found our jinx. ;^)
1 Feb 2005 — 3:42pm
Steve, you definitely are the jinx... =)
We don't expect to change the membership benefits during
2005. We are however, cranking on major site updates in
time for our 5th anniversary.
Priority one is moving over to our new server environment for
better stability. Priority two is the forum software itself.
Membership contributions will definitely help fund these needed
upgrades.
