Jared --

This will only *encourage* them! Look out! ;-)

>Farewell to Zoot Sims (Unsolved since June 03, some leads

I consider this solved. Jim Rimmer got it right -- metal Stymie Extra Bold.

>Minnesota Daily 1939 font (Unsolved since June, some leads)

We got way off track looking at different sans serifs, but I consider this one solved as well. That flag is clearly not a font. It's custom, hand-lettered, based on Coronet. I think plenty of evidence was offered to support this.

Jared, you've created another monster.
How'd you compile the figures?

cheshiredave's picture

Jared, you are a god among obsessive type id-ers.

eomine's picture

Thanks, Jared! No upset at all!
Being among the Fastest 10 is good enough for me. ;-)

Anyway, I found two more 2-minuters by Stephen: Oxtail and Garage Gothic.
And two 3-minuters that might get in to the rank: Adobe Sans by Tiffany, and Avenir by Yves.

Interesting thing I noticed: while my 2min35sec ID was rounded to 3min (in the message header), Colin's 2min40 and Cheshire's 2min41sec and 2min44sec were all rounded to 2min!

Congrats to Eduardo for becoming the top dog! But that's a big enough bone for me to get back into the fray, so watch out, my Japanese-Brazilian friend! Please give the Typophile server extra caffeine this week...

Dammit, now I'm in the bump slot. I need to get a more solid time... under 2 minutes, baby.

eomine's picture

Thanks, Jared and Hrant. ;-)
And I don't even use the email notification!
And 2 seconds?! I'm amazed.

BTW, maybe this one can bring Cheshire back to the Top 10?

Bald Condensed's picture

LOL! Jared, this is pure gold! I was planning to do
something like that, but it looked like too much work.
Brill!!!

Check again! I've updated the Top 10 Fastest Draws of all time - The forums actually tracks to the SECOND, not just the minute. So congrats Yves, you got it in under 3 minutes to tie with Tiffany! (Too bad she got there first...)

Crawl the ID board and post the fastest draws here, so we can fill out the top 10.

Hope you enjoy it! (What'll August be like?)

Miss Tiffany's picture

Yah. This is fun. BTW, didn't I get this one at 2min?? :-)

What an upset!

Eduardo dropped himself into the number 3 position, in front of Chesh, Tiff and Yves, only to get bumped by Tiffany, who is now our #2 (Go girl!) with a 01:52 ID.

Congrats to all!

Jared Benson's picture

I wish it were automated, but I compiled these stats purely by hand. It sounds masochistic, but I've wondered about it for a long time and I know some of you have too.

The process was facilitated greatly by Yves & Stephen's system to (x) the correct IDs and list the "winner" - so big props to them.

Jared Benson's picture

Updated Slot #9 with Cheshire's 02:57 Souvenir Bold.

Who belongs at #10? Let's get them in there to enjoy the limelight, and then we start bumping.

To put a final nail in this delusional monologue, I was able to scrub up a few more contenders...

Yves Peters takes #3 with an impressive Arepo, and Colin Hartnett rides Times New Roman to slot #6. Congrats!

Bald Condensed's picture

We are unworthy, oh mighty one...

Jared Benson's picture

Thanks Eduardo! Stephen and Tiffany landed themselves the #3 and #4 position, while Yves grabs #7. Impressive that it was, Stephen's 2:46 Garage Gothic was no longer speedy enough to stay in the top 10.

For all the IDs that Chesh gets (possibly our reigning champ, does anyone want to count 'em up since January?) he's in the precarious #10 "bump" slot if anyone can nab an ID in under 2:41. Good luck!

anonymous's picture

I'm amazed I ended up on any kind of "fast draw" list, seeing as I'm a lurker who hasn't even registered yet. Sort of a lucky shot the one time I got in.

eomine's picture

Ha, this is great!
Are we going to have this summary every month?
Is it automated?

BTW, I think you guys missed the #7 Fastest Draw of All Times!
Yeah, I know, I'm being a little egocentric with this, but anyway...
And check Yves' last post on that link... Another coincidence?... ;-)
