Type Design Conferences/Lectures/Events?

abattis's picture

Are there any good lists of type design events this year? :)

hrant's picture

This year is loaded.

Not counting the TDC non-Latin workshops that would be nice
to attend, I myself am shooting for no fewer than six (although
even if only 2-3 of those click I'll still be happy).

In chronological order:
Typo-SF
Armenia mini-conference
2nd Istanbul conference
TypeCon
ATypI
Bangkok non-Latin conference

There's also the India stuff, and TypeCamp.

By 'India stuff' you mean http://www.typoday.in - or is there more? :)

By 'Bangkok non-Latin' you mean http://www.bitsmm.org ?

hrant's picture

India: yes.
Bangkok: no, but that looks cool too!

What event were you thinking of in Bangkok then? :)

hrant's picture

Uh, I don't want to steal anybody's thunder... :-)
But I'll email you as soon as it's confirmed.

Not counting the TDC non-Latin workshops

Why not count them?

hrant's picture

I was just talking about my own schedule/finances,
and that just seems to much to hope for. But let's
see how things pan out!

BTW, it turns out that -due to the floods- BITS 2011 was
postponed. It will now take place on May 25-26 of this year.

James, all TDC non-latin workshops you link to were in 2011, and I believe the Hebrew one never happened. Are there going to be more in 2012?

.00's picture

All of those years should be 2012. I'll alert the TDC to the error.

News flash:
The Bangkok non-Latin conference has been postponed to July of 2013.

BTW, I'll be speaking at the Granshan conference in Yerevan and
ISType* immediately afterwards. Wish me luck - I might need it.

Someone should put together a convention closer to SC.

[Brian, I like your new icon very much. Is there the rest of a typeface to go with this splendid 'g'?]

This year, I'll be at the RIT 'Reading Digital Symposium' later this month, and at ISType in Istanbul. Probably also at TypeCon, but that's not confirmed yet. Possibly at the Unicode conference in the autumn.

[John: Thanks. This came from some sketching and I drew the glyph by itself. I think it works best as it's own icon. I did try to make some matching glyphs but it proved rather difficult. Maybe some time I will try again.]
