Write all glyphs from a typeface at once?

Stinger's picture

Is it possible to do the above? If you have a typeface, is there a script or trick to write all glyphs in one go (e.g. in Illustrator or another program). Would be very handy to test a typeface...

I haven't used it for ages, but doesn't ADFKO come with a set of programs to generate overview PDFs straight from the font file itself?

You can print all glyphs from Fontlab, so I'm sure there must be a way to print to pdf then open that in Illustrator

The problem is, that copy & paste might not work properly for glyphs without Unicode value. But the script I linked above uses the GlyphID, so it can access really any glyph inside the font. And between Adobe apps like Illustrator and InDesign you can easily copy & paste these glyphs.

Awesome guys, will try this out. The InDesign trick sounds very promising, will enable you to c/p between Adobe programs for sure. Thanks a heap guys!

Worked like a charm! For anyone not familiar with scripts: save the script linked above in the InDesign Scripts folder*. It will then appear in the Scripts Panel where you can load it. Wicked!

* on windows: Users > [Username] > AppData > Roaming > Adobe > InDesign > Version [6.0] > nl_NL > Scripts > Scripts Panel

I needed something like this a few months back. Should've asked. Went the hard way and just clicked one character at a time in the glyphs palette. Now I know better ;)

Cheers,

In the past I just copied the glyph set in a PDF specimen from exljbris Font Foundry.
