What happend to the typefaces created by VEB Typoart (the East German official type foundry)? Did they ever make digital typefaces (I think that they closed in 1990)? Were any of their typefaces revived and re-distributed? Did anyone buy the company, or the rights to their designs?

To make it short, its a hot thing.
- Typoart have digitized lots of its type faces - Ikarus System
- the rights holds a Mr. Holzer, but he is away since he is wanted...
- the data exists on forgotten places - Mr. Holzer have no access to my knowledge
As I have heard, he have tried to sell the rights. But its a hot thing to make deals with a wanted deptor. Till now, all living designers of typoart got nothing, no royalties, no public recognition.
ps. Sprich doch mal mit Bruno.

Funny.
Time to form IPBH: Intellectual Property Bounty Hunters, LLC.
"Mr Holzer, we are from the Buenos Aires branch of the IPBH. You are surrounded. Release the rights to the fonts or we're coming in with our composing sticks and type yarn!"

Is Mr. Holzer wanted in Germany on criminal charges? Is he in Brazil? I don't get the joke, because I don't know any details
so "?" = "Hrant, please elaborate"

He's German (right?), and it seems he's on the run. Germans have previously run to Argentina (and Brazil to a lesser extent too, I guess - but I didn't write Rio or Sao Paolo). Just a dumb joke, as you might suspect.

Dan, some typefaces developed at Typoart are now offered by URW++ : Garamond No.4, Hogarth Script, Magna, Maxima, Senator, Timeless. Just type "Typoart" in that "Schnellsuche" field, and click on "GO".

The most used font in GDR was Arno Drescher's Super-Grotesk, by VEB Typoart too.

In fact, Super-Grotesk was not a Typoart typeface. Arno Drescher's original Super-Grotesk was designed around 1930

In 1950 it was redesigned by Schriftguss Dresden (pre-Typoart) for Linotype matrices, under the name of ‘Super Buchgrotesk’.
Later, Karl-Heinz Lange redrew it for photocomposition during his time at VEB Typoart.

Today I must correct my above statement.
Mr. Holzer is not "wanted". He is living near Berlin and everyone can phone or meet him.

PingMag have an article on VEB Typoart and Karl-Heinz Lange that's worth a read: http://pingmag.jp/2007/10/05/veb-typoart-the-east-german-type-betriebsst...
