Sensor - still working on...

tourdeforce's picture

This is an typeface I tried to work on pauses during drawing of an another font that's soon gonna be traced.

So far I did only all upper and lowercase + "."
Still without proper metrics done.

I'd call this rather only preview to decide whether is it worth to continue or not.

Any comments on this?

- Dusan

P.S. - Don't pay attention on proportions if it's possible, it's still far from good.

P.S. 2 - I still have a couple of doubts about some shapes... for example with /S/ and /s/, should they have "eaten" part of to be without it... and so on.

Yes. Please. Continue.

There are two things that don't sit right with me: the vertical placement of the middle arm of the E and the width of the bottom of V feels like it's too much.

Nice work! Looking forward to seeing it finished!

I like the Ss.
Not sure about F, though.

There's something of an optical illusion that makes the right part of the crossbars in f and t appear to sit lower than the left part. It might help if you raised them a little to compensate.

Just played a little with serifs.

I'm not so confident that this can be useful variation (with serif).

- Will try that!

- Will do that, too.

- Trying that also.

OK, working further on this. :)
Also, /g/, /K/, /k/, /w/ needs an alternative try.

Re the Sensor Serif: those serifs don't work in my opinion.
Either go for slab, or, better yet try something lighter, which complements the traps.

I agree with you.
Looks too boring and simply, it's not good enough.

Done also slab version but still needs tweaking before showing it here.

Thanks :)

Looking at it more, I think the way you've used the notch gimmick in f, t, and T can only be a hindrance to reading, no matter how you tweak it. Instead, you should try a horizontal notch underscoring the crossbar.

OK, here are new updates.

I made a couple of alternative glyphs for /E/, /F/, /f/, /t/, /K/, /k/ and /Z/, just to have them all in one place and maybe easier decide with which one to go.

I also did what Kevin suggested with middle part of /f/ and /t/.

P.S. - PDF from the first post is updated also.

And ignore proportions again (as well as metrics). :)

/K/ and /k/... as alternatives... ignore them too. Bad top endings.

Just released Sensor finally.
