MoMA | The Collection | Ryuichi Yamashiro. Forest. 1954

Prompted by Altaira's new year's kawai wish card (http://typophile.com/node/65762), and by Hrant's quiz about the glyph used for the trees, I was reminded of one of my all time favourite calligraphy/typography posters.

This is great. Way to exploit the potential of an ideographic script. Is this a text or a picture? :-)

(For the uninitiated:
mori = forest
hayashi = also forest, I think a smaller forest?
where 木 ki = tree)

林 hayashi = also forest, I think a smaller forest?

I think it could be translated as "wood".
