Sans/Serif Combos

Queneau's picture

I've been trying to figure out some nice combos of Sans and Serif fonts. Some are known classics of course. Please let me know what you think, maybe you can come up some better matches. And perhaps you have some ideas for newer fonts? I'm curious!

- Akzidenz Grotesk / New Baskerville
- Avenir / Didot
- Franklin Gothic / Century
- Frutiger / Melior
- Gill Sans / Perpetua / Joanna
- Optima / Palatino
- Syntax / Sabon
- Univers / Centennial
- Johnston / Golden Cockerel

Futura/Century Old Style. They've been around for a while, but they get the job done.

Helvetica / Didot / Bodoni

The skeleton is basically the same, just different contrast. I’m afraid this trail of thought will result in utter boredom though. You should trust your eyes, more than a set of rules.

Oh, I couldn't agree more, and I would hardly call them rules... just ideas for use, no more.
