If you are using spaced out letters for emphasis, how do you emphasize single letter words?
Well, think of it this way... you have a flock of sheep, or you have a single sheep.
Is this one of those if a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it question?
Actually I'd guess you just give it some extra space before and after it. For a two letter word you might want to as well.

Leave two word-spaces on either side? Or stretch the letter wide 150%? :-/
You might check out old German typography, since they used letterspacing for emphasis.

What is the sound of one letter clapping?
Not many one-letter German words, though.
Ah! Convenient.
James, I think the "i" could clap decently by itself, except we capitalize it!
And the “j” may be ahead of the “i”.
In the case of "i" you could move the dot up! ;)
