Interestingly, each of those "e"s are being used differently, but none of those uses require a diacritic of any kind in American English. How 'bout that?
AFAIK that's actually the main post office of all of
LA, right smack dab in the middle of downtown!
And what about that mis-used "ft" ligature?
In a way so is any fake handwriting - in the broadest
sense of the word. I remember when I first held a large
Palatino sort in my palm - it felt distinctly... unholy.
It's nice that it pays homage to the physical act of writing, which was at the heart of the business when it started.
Somewhat related: when the old art deco Toronto Postal Building on Lakeshore was converted to the Air Canada Centre (hockey/basketball/music arena), the architects preserved the quirky old lettering that was on the outside, in the foyer:
Deco! Now that I like!
