I really could use some help!

I'm about to layout a book on architectural theory, and the author prefers a sans serif body text. Since the book consists of mainly text it should be highly legible, modern, but not too quirky.
Any suggestions (apart from the usual suspects - Helvetica, Frutiger, Univers)?
