The Serif printed on my socks is a mystery to me

Mr Brown's picture

Hello Typos.
I got given these socks yesterday
and I would love to know what the typeface
Viyella have used is.
Any ideas?

brett jordan's picture

it is probably georgia, or maybe bookman?

That’s probably the most fun topic title I’ve ever read on this board.
Would make a good first sentence for a novel as well.

or a They Might Be Giants song title :-)

Oh yeah. Song title is even better.

Thanks you lot feel free to use it for your novels.
Perhaps is a PhD thesis.
Any ideas I don't think its Georgia its the 'y' that's so nice.

you're right, that 'y' is distinctive, and definitely not georgia or bookman... i'll keep looking, in between emailing They Might Be Giants :-)

My vote would be to squoosh Utopia in the semibold or bold weight. The serifs are pretty flat, and the 'a' is built almost right, and the 'y' seems close, all except for the width.

Well I tried it with Semibold, with a little stroke thickening, since I didn't have a heavier weight. You can see from the comparison (below) that it's not quite right, but maybe close enough?

Thanks everyone.
I initially thought it was Utopia.
but the dot on the 'i' and the height of the 'y' is not even close.
Have we foxed the type ID board?
