To save space they should've switched to hexadecimal. That would have had the extra advantage of obscuring reality, allowing people to continue spending money they will never have.

Si, they can put it into the unicode slot now occupied by the cent sign since that is about what the dollar is worth and still heading south.

Switching to £ would give the clock a longer life.

Perhaps the US should also go back to the old "British" way of counting large numbers where a billion is a million million (1,000,000,000,000) not a mere thousand million (1,000,000,000). That way the US national debt would only be $10.2 billion not $10.2 trillion.
