Hey, Im Jorge, born in Mexico, lived in Spain, currently in Berlin. I love and do computer graphics in general, 3D,2D,Electronic Music and im learning processing and match moving with syntheyes now.

Software used : Blender3D,Inkscape,Photoshop.
Learning : Processing,Synth eyes and How and where to use fonts.

My question is , i want to use the AVANTGARDE type face, but i cannot seem to fnd the exact type that was used in the original logo :

http://www.graphic-design.com/Type/Avant/Avant2.html

But if i type AVANTGARDE in linotype , here :

http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/adobe/itc-avant-garde-gothic/

The font is just not the same, the A is simetrical and in the AVANTGARDE logo is not.

Where can i find the exact type ?

Also i downloaded te font AVANTGARDE demi bt from here :

http://www.webpagepublicity.com/free-fonts-a5.html

But when i write AVANTGARDE i get this :

You’ll want ITC Avant Garde Pro or Avant Garde Alternates.

It doesn’t work the way you think it does. Avant Garde is a typeface with numerous ligatures and alternate characters that a designer combines manually to get those, errr, interesting looks.

You probably won’t be able to get the effect in Photoshop because the Photoshop doesn’t have a glyph palette. You can do it in Illustrator or Indesign and export the outlines to Photoshop, tho.

ITC released the full version with all the alternates in 2005. Use these fonts with OpenType savvy apps to access all the alternates. Get the PDF, which shows the whole character set, here.

and i just saw in itcfonts.com there where many pages and i was just looking one, so in the other pages are the other symbols , the "A" and stuff.

Thanx for the help ! ;D

That would be very unethical and frowned upon by us all.

How would you feel if someone found a copy of your hard work and copied it without your permission, then changed it to fit their needs?

If you want to use the font, buy it and adhere to the EULA.

If you plan to do something else that's both unethical and illegal; you don't need to be part of this community.

No worries, I'm not angry. It's a very sensitive subject around here. There are a lot of type designers that feel piracy and similar practices have destroyed a once strong industry. Mentioning an act of copying work would be considered along those lines and it's frowned at here. We're here to teach and inform people of the beautiful world that typography is. And how to enjoy using it without resorting to pilfering it. If you want to learn more about type, you've come to the right place.

As for your dilemma, I can only suggest purchasing a version of Avant Garde that has alternatives. You'll need a program like Illustrator or InDesign with a glyphs palette (found under windows> type> glyphs). There you'll find the alternative A you are desperate to use. There should be several other alternatives to there letters there as well.

Asvetic, I don't want to start a fight here, but I don't think Jorge (TweakingKnobs) is planning to trace the entire Avant Garde character set to make a pirate font and pass it off (or sell it) as his own work. That would be unethical and illegal, but if I understand correctly Jorge just needs to modify a few letters for a job he's working on. Designers tweak and modify letters all the time when creating logos, for example, and that's no crime.

Ricardo, I understood it as, he was going to take those letters from the PDF distributed by ITCfonts.

Is it illegal/unethical to copy or hack glyph outlines from a pdf?

Yeah, I see what you mean now. And that certainly is a sensitive topic, knowing that there are foundries that don't allow their fonts to be embedded in PDFs.
