Help installing/using Robofab

kiko's picture

Hi there.

I took a look at the install chapter on robofab's web page but didn't helped me that much. I've never used this kind of aplications and I don't have much experience using macros or scripts, so any easy aproach on how to install/use them would be greatlly apreciated.

I'm running FL5 with Python v.2.4.4, on Windows Vista,

Thanks in advance
Regards

I allways get this error message:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "", line 24, in ?
ImportError: No module named robofab.gString
Studio5:2: Warning: FontLab contains a bug that renders nameTable.py inoperable
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "", line 23, in ?
ImportError: No module named robofab

What I'm I doing wrong (or not doing at all)?

Hi,

...From the error above it appears that your machine is missing a "g string" ;)

Can you describe what you have done exactly? How did you install RoboFab? When do you get this error message?

Hi, and thanks for reply

After opening the zip folder containing robofab 86, I have just tried to run the install.py file, and moved the folders to the macro folder in fontlab installation location.
I've also installed Numpy 1.1.0 for python 2.4 and TTX font tools.

This error message apears in the output window in FL.

Thanks

Make sure you'll do the following:
- Download the latest version from robofab.org (Robofab + FontTools + DialogKit)
- After unzipping, place the RoboFab folder somewhere on your harddrive. I've put mine in my applications folder
- Run install_zip.py
- Copy *only* the folder named 'Scripts' to your FontLab macro folder

If you move the folder with the Robofab data to another location you need to run the install script again.

Hope this helps.

Sure it helped.
I was moving the folder after running the install_zip.py.
Now it's working ok.

Thanks

I'm getting this error:
ImportError: No module named fontTools.pens.basePen

Oka.. fixed that last error.
Now is asking for Numpy

Oka. Finally I get it running on PC.

Posting this just in case someone else find it useful:
- I ended up with 2 version of Python installed: 2.4 and 2.6
- FontLab, for some reason, is using Python2.4
- The latest version of Numpy1.5.1 uses Pyhton2.6, FontLab ignores it.
- To install Numpy for Python2.4, I used and old Numpy1.2.1 release.

Hey @PabloImpallari, can you tell how you fixed this error:

ImportError: No module named fontTools.pens.basePen

I already tried to install font tools (several times) as I think this is why I got this error but without much success.
