(x) Limfjords Porter stout beer label - Compacta (modified) {Lex}

emilhedevang's picture

Dear Typophiles,

Can you help me identify the font used for the word LIMFJORDS·PORTER on the attached picture? The beer is my absolute favorite. The kerning on the label looks a bit odd, but the taste (of the beer, not the label) is top-notch.

Best regards,
Emil Hedevang

Looks very much like it could be HouseGothic Condensed Bold with the use of the Alternate 'S' used that's part of the font. Here's the link; I've tried it with my copy of HouseGothic and it matches perfectly as long as you use the alternate S.

Is it just me or could they have spent a little more time on kerning?

jazzhustler's picture

not it's not just you, the kerning is pretty shoddy. You could drive a bus through the gap between the M & F!!

I think it's just Compacta with a modified "FJ".

I've tried Compacta; its close but its slightly wider than the example and the M is different, plus the F & J match perfectly in HouseGothic.

Thank you for the replies. Yes, the kerning is awfull.

Doesn't it look more like House Gothic 23 Condensed Black?

Nope, it is Compacta with a modified “FJ” like Lex suggested. I know House Gothic 23 quite well and it doesn't really look like it.

Yes, Bald Condensed, I now agree with you after having compared with Compacta from MyFonts.

When I look at the sample from MyFonts, it appears to me that the poor kerning is partly due to the font itself.

Emil,
AFAIK, the MyFonts preview doesn’t support kerning.

AFAIK, the MyFonts preview doesn’t support kerning.

It does, but unfortunately only if the font is a TTF.

Aha! Thanks, Jos.

You're welcome Florian :-) I hope MyFonts will support kerning preview for PS OTF with their new website design.
