I am looking for a font family with the same elegance, titling, etc. (and ornaments would be nice) as Plantagenet. Any suggestions?

I have a number of Plantagenet relatives. :) Starts back in the 1700s with Lady Anne Plantagenet, IIRC.

What is it about Plantagenet that makes it so you won't or can't use it?

You could try selecting some of the Plantagenet characteristics you like and using the Serif Font ID Guide to get suggestions of fonts with those features. I tried it and one idea was Clifford, so I agree with Stephen's suggestion.
