>Last I heard he was trekking through the Rwandan jungle on behalf of the National Geographic society protecting baby gorillas from poaching.
So he finished rescuing the baby polar bears for Al Gore? I thought his next mission was finding Osama, and then defeating the Robot Gods invading the planet Zargon!
When Hrant travelled through time
To the year 3010,
He fought the evil robot kings
and saved the human race again
That's right. I supplied him with the Von Lessinger time travel equipment. Hrant sent me a Helveeta T-shirt and matching space suit back thru time.
I am making the movie Hrant and the Masters of the Univers.
I know Hrant a bit, he has been a student of mine off and on. I'm guessing, based on previous internet behavior, he has lost interest in the list. Lists tend to get more juvenile as they get older, the serious folks drop out, etc.; the die hards hang in despite the lack of intelligent conversation (and ultimately turn to definitions of word usage). Maybe that is what happened here. Don't know for sure.
"And like that, he's gone. Underground. Nobody's ever seen him since. He becomes a myth, a spook story that designers tell their kids at night. "Rat on your pop and Hrant will get you." But no one ever really believes."
There is just a number of people which enjoy to write in public, and another part which prefer other means. And as Nick says, there is no rule.
For example, the fact that I have been away for years does not mean I forgot my interest in type, or entirely stopped working at it.

Apart from some widely dispersed brief appearances, he's been gone for months I hope he's all right.
27 Jan 2008 — 9:21am
Hrant has posted to the ATypI list in recent months, so he's probably just busy.
28 Jan 2008 — 9:07am
I know! Hasn’t it been great?

Stop using his name lest you summon the dark one!

Hrant sees all!
I miss him.
Then again, I miss myself as well :^)
28 Jan 2008 — 2:23pm
Yikes!
28 Jan 2008 — 4:15pm
He's taken it to the street!
28 Jan 2008 — 5:56pm
He’s gone and joined a communist vegetarian eastern mystic cult!
28 Jan 2008 — 6:20pm
It worries me when people dissappear.
28 Jan 2008 — 7:42pm
The internet is serious business!

Use of the word 'peon' has fallen to a new low as well...

Indeed whenever I post to typophile I first ask myself WWHD? ;-)
29 Jan 2008 — 9:47am
WWNBHD?
29 Jan 2008 — 12:12pm
Or, conversely, WWEEHD?
29 Jan 2008 — 4:05pm
What?

I talked to him a 2 weeks ago or so on email. He is fine.
30 Jan 2008 — 7:45am
Eben, so why isn't he around anymore? Was it part of the terms of his parole that he not visit this site anymore?
I miss him too - he was very smart and he added some spice.
30 Jan 2008 — 8:42am
I don't know about any 'parole'. We didn't talk about typophile. You could always get on the Atypi list ( See Si's post above) and ask him.
WWHD=What Would Hrant do? As in "WWJD" an irritating Jesus related abbreviation. As to the rest .. I have no idea.
30 Jan 2008 — 10:41am
Which inspired - "What would Brian Boitano do"
http://home.usadatanet.net/~paruby/06_boitano.htm
which loosely inspired my "Robot Gods" comment, "Robot King" being the actual lyric.
Which inspired WWHD
So what would Hrant do
If he were here today,
I'm sure he'd kick an ass or two,
That's what Hrant'd do.
30 Jan 2008 — 1:03pm
He's gone to teach people how to pronounce his name.

@ Eben WWHD=What Would Hrant do? As in “WWJD” an irritating Jesus related abbreviation. As to the rest .. I have no idea.
I figured Haley's WWNBHD to be "What Would No-one But Hrant Do?" which made my WWEEHD "What Would Everyone Except Hrant Do?"
:-)

Actually it's What Would Neville Brody's Hair Do?
The answer is rock out probably.
30 Jan 2008 — 3:13pm
Hair gone :-(

I know. I have the hair. It's in a ziploc baggie in my freezer.
Sorry that was kinda creepy actually.
30 Jan 2008 — 7:25pm
Er, so how about those Patriots?
30 Jan 2008 — 9:31pm
It’s in a ziploc baggie in my freezer.
Wow, I just remembered this old movie called "Silence of the Industria."

I was looking into the ATypI list but I didn't come up with much. It is members only - correct? Is it Listserv based?
3 Feb 2008 — 2:20pm
I miss Hrant.

It is a members only e-mail list. Once you become a member, you can sign up for the e-mail list on the ATypI website.

Too far from us for sure!

He's getting to be like Bigfoot.

Gerald, I favour your big bang theory over steady state, but what about an oscillating model?
5 Feb 2008 — 11:32am

What do you mean by "serious"?
