I know it's an oldy and I should know it, but can anyone give me the closest font match to the Cheers logo.

No, it's probably hand lettered, but it does have a similar gradient fill as Cabaret.

The opening credits use Cabaret, so I'm guessing it was custom drawn, then filled to match Cabaret.
