Acrobat 8 comes with Minion and Myriad Pro

Not v. exciting news for owners of Adobe's latest CS Suite, but for those of us without such weighty programs, it's worth knowing that if you install Acrobat 8 Standard for Windows (not the Reader), and then go to \Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Resource\Font\, lo and behold, there are Minion and Myriad Pro in their full OpenType glory!

FWIW, I have Acrobat 7.0 Professional, and this applies to this version, too.

I could have sworn that I got those with my Reader installation, too. Yup. I did.

But does it make a superior café au lait and sponsor an escargolade?

I thought not.... :-)

Miguel,

it would be really nice if Myriad Pro was given small caps. While setting some headlines in MyriadPro-Semibold I once used the size-reduced caps of MyriadPro-BoldEmiExt as small caps. This worked adequately, but the other weights of Myriad Pro aren't graded in the way that would allow such tricks. The old MyriadMM would have allowed such tricks back in the Multiple Master days, but it is no longer possible in the new OpenType era.

Since my guess is that Myriad Pro is internally developed as a two-axis MM anyway, I trust it wouldn't pose so much of a problem to produce small caps through the appropriate interpolation.

Best,
Adam

It's in our TODO list ;-)

Nor does it cure piles like GX could.

Linda Cunningham's picture

Well, if it won't cure piles either, then what's a person to do? ;-)

(ROFL! Thanks John. Will you be at the Wayzgoose in November?)
