Eighth Day Progression

James Scriven's picture

So, client went withthe Eight Shape, so I took the crap out of the middle and went with two leaves on the side. Created a two colour version, that can obviously work in just black as well.
Im really stuck on the placement of a typographic mark with the loogo mark. They need to exist together but I cant seem to nail it down. Would love some ideas from the well informed.

Edited Version. . .

Changed to Centennial. .. . still iff'ed out about the placement.

There is something lovely about this.

- I like the placement of the first.
- The word spacing is much, much too large in "Eighth Day"

Yes indeed. Very nice.

Upper left. “Eighth Day” tighter and a bit smaller and a little more space between the type and the logo.

Is that Didot and Avenir?

James Scriven's picture

Thanks folks. I havnt delved into the spacing yet, but your comments are duely noted.

I used Bauer Bodoni and Gotham Light.

Cheers

Heres a refinement based on your useful comments. . .

I'm not sure I like Bauer Bodoni. The hairline strokes and the weepy descenders don't seem solid enough next to your bold logo graphic.

Course, I'm probably just being nit-picky.

Asvetic . . . suggestions for an alternative. . . I have tried filosofia but it loses the higher class feeling. Didot is similiar . . .?

Jan's picture

Didot would go even more in the wrong direction.
I tried something with the logo to the right of the wordmark.
That seemed to look OK for me.
You might think about doing something to the sublines.
They will probably become problematic at small sizes.

Jan and others, attached are some variations. I like the ball terminals. . . not sure though.

Thoughts, or other specific relevant typefaces.

Cheers

having trouble with the images. . .

I was actually thinking Centennial... it's very similar to Bodoni, but more modern, cleaner. The strokes aren't as thin and the descenders are nice and straight.

Might be worth a shot.

James Scriven's picture

Asvetic. . . money shot. . .

I like it much more, as you said little more modern and clean as well as working better and smaller sizes.

Cheers Mate

Excellent, it was a shot in the dark really. Put a post up, I'm eager to see how it came out.
