Looking for the best Serif font on earth

jabberjaw's picture

I need some typeophile help:

I'm in search of an incredible serif font.

I'm ready to spend some cash / i'm not looking for any free stuff.

Perhaps something a little unique, but classic?. something you'd see in a very high end publication.

Any ideas?

You gave no concrete information about how the font will be used. So, I guess the best is a list of high quality, distinct contemporary serif families to help you choose:
Guardian Text
Lexia
Cordale
Greta Text
Brioni
Expo Serif
Athelas
Karmina
Archer
Vitesse
Yoga
Meta Serif
Celeste
Stuart
Tisa
Marat
Skolar
Calluna
Magneta
Premiéra
Others you may consider (I don't have their links here): Andron, Tundra, Lyon, Pollen, Novel Pro, Girando Pro, Williams Caslon, Cala, and Sina Nova. Among all these, Guardian and Andron are my favorites. Between the classic ones, Minion, Sabon, and Iowan Old Style are outstanding.

Best serif font ever? If you're still looking after 7 years, try one of the fonts done by Signora Manutius's kid, Al.

You want contemporary digital work, try Trinité. If cost limits you one bundle, get the No. 2. May not be "the best," but that's sort of a meaningless phrase in any case.
