INFO about, Akzidenz Grotesk

I'm lokking for some more information about Akzidenz Grotesk.
who did it?
when?
from wich country? (germany I think)
why?
and orher similar informations would be great.

any one can help me?
is there a web site where i can find these kind of informations?
i've tried in some books but i didn't got anything useful.

I suspect that Günter Gerhard Lange supervised the digitization of Standard for the PostScript version of Akzidenz Grotesk, as he was only born in 1921, while Standard/Akzidenz was introduced by Berthold in their 1896 catalog. I've found no information about the original designer.

GGL definitely was not the original designer of AG.
