Looking for Type Specimen PDFs
I’m looking to analyze type specimens for inspiration on a poster project I’m working on. I’ve looked through the Flickr group here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/type_specimen/ but I’m really interested in more contemporary designs, not just showing the character set or Lorem ipsum. Typefaces don’t matter I’m just looking for the variety and different techniques (phrases vs. single words per line vs. story telling).

Hmmm, I’m obsessed with type specimens. I collect them PDFs (along with scans and photographs) and print them all out on the laser. I think that the best place to get them is to download them directly from the foundry’s/type designer’s website. My del.icio.us/typefoundry tag if you need links to their websites. I hope this helps.

Do you want PDFs only? I will add some GIFs to the Flickr group.

Geoff: I’ll take a look at that link!
Stephen: GIFs are fine as long as they’re decent size. Like I said I’m just looking at styles/techniques and formatting. What I’m really looking for is more extensive samples like Mark has on his website ie. http://ms-studio.com/FontSales/goldenbook.html . I know I’ve seen them before but just can’t remember/find examples. Thanks!

I know it’s not PDF but Emigre puts out a nice little type catalog regularly, you might like to check it out, see here.
Most foundries do have PDF specimens available for download, just look for that elusive little icon or text that says PDF. :^)

There are PDF specimens for all OpenType FontFonts. Example: FF Daxline Pro

Thanks Stephen, I had no idea!
Here’s another one, Storm Type’s secret “expert specimen” page. ;^)

Geoff: Wish I had time to order the Emigre catalog but the poster is due Wednesday. :^D
Stephen: Any way to search for all OT by FontFont? Most of what I’m finding is basic character sets.

Close, all OT fonts on FontShop.com (so this includes FontFonts and those from other foundries) are available in Browse by Category.

All my retail typfaces have individual and detailed pdf specimen. They are all print optimized.
You’ll find them here; http://www.macrhino.com

Stephen,
I just realized that the flickr link showed some of my own typfaces. Thanks for putting them up in the first place.

Thanks for the Flickr uploads, Stewf. Those are more of what I’m looking for.
Stefan: I’ll take a look at yours now!
