Hi everyone

I’m redesigning a masthead for the excitingly titled PCAuthority magazine. Currently set in Champion (all caps, bold condensed). I’m looking at Meta, as it’s got a lot more personality, just thought I’d see if anyone had any other suggestions. Bearing in mind the number of characters it has to be slightly condensed.

Thanks all

thanks for the reply on my question.

My very ill-informed opinion is that Meta might be a little busy for a masthead, DIN or transit might be a better option in the same food group

What about Klavika or Apex New? Though, I think both of them are probably too wide for a masthead.

Another suggestion, Stratum 1. I’m not sure what you’re after, I think Meta may be too warm for “PCAuthority”. Is that the magazine we get here in Australia?

When you guys say “masthead” are you referring to the logo? The masthead of a magazine is actually the block of information of who “mans the ship” so to speak—editor-in-chief, design director, etc...

Eunoia might be worth exploring.
You can mix and match alternate characters to fine tune the setting.

There is a display version of FF Meta for just such occasions.

Erik Spiekermann’s best-known face is without doubt FF Meta, whose lively shapes give it a distinctive character — often too much so for headlines. Enter FF Meta Headline. Under the direction of Spiekermann & Christian Schwartz, Joshua Darden created three widths (normal, condensed, compressed) with four weights each. There are several alternate characters for tight setting: an ‘a’ and ‘l’ without tails and a simple ‘g’. A few arrows and dingbats are also included.

I don’t know transit, I’ll check it out. Din is what they used to use and besides I’m bored of using Din!

Thanks

Klavika is very nice though I agree I’m not not sure about the width.

Stratum is very cool but I think a little too cool. And yes it is the Aussie PCA!

Masthead = logo yes

Eunoia - I don’t like - sorry!

And FFMeta yes love it.

Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks people
