Hrant Papazian: A Line of Type
April 17-May 5
292 Gallery
Montserrat College of Art
292 Cabot Street
Beverly, MA 01915
Hours: Monday-Friday 12-5pm
An exposition of typeface designs, featuring strange shapes, Star
Wars and nanobiotechnology. But mostly strange shapes.
Hrant Papazian is an Armenian native of Lebanon, currently living in
Los Angeles. His perspective on written communication was formed at
the crossroads of three competing visual cultures. A multimedia
designer by trade, his true love remains the black-and-white, but
colorful world of non-Latin typeface design, with commissions from
IKEA, Unitype, UCLA, Disney, the Israel Postal Authority, and
Liverpool University.

Can’t wait to see it!
I live less than fifteen minutes from the Montserrat campus.
Maybe I can take pics (if school or Hrant allows). Hrant is supposedly planning a trip to Montserrat... hope it makes it, I owe him a lunch ;-)

Sure, take pics! (I just hope I won’t be in them...)
> I owe him a lunch
In the interest of full disclosure, I confess to having
treated Norbert and his wife to Zankou recently.
Lauri, Paul, Sara, Dennis, David et alia, it’s an
option you can take up too!
BTW, a link inside that link seems to be off - here’s a better one:

(And NO, this does NOT mean I conspired those stickers in Hensinki!)

Mmmmmmm... Zankou Chicken!
Thanks for the discloser, Hrant.
I wasn’t sure if you would admit to meeting me ;-)
Hrant and I had typically boring discussion about type while my wife seemed to have enjoyed Hrant’s company immensely! (She was disappointed we didn’t run into Brad Pitt during the LA visit but Armenian chicken with Hrant made up for it).

Massachusetts eagerly awaits Hrant’s arrival at the Montserrat College of Art for his talk Thursday April 27 at 12:30 pm at the 292 Gallery, Beverly, Mass.
Hopefully he won’t get detained at Boston’s Logan airport for carrying a concealed Bouma!!!

Good show, good talk, good people!
...and the sushi wasn’t bad either ¦-)
Pics not loading — will upload later :-(

Will the show still be up during TypeCon?
Congrats Hrant!

From what I’ve heard they already have more to exhibit than the space can accommodate.
The school plans to release a catalog of Hrant’s exhibit (in PDF?).
I’ll post a link when available, though it won’t be for some time.

As usual, I look like a drawer of 72 pt Cooper Black just sideswiped me.
The exhibit was Maya Drozdz’s idea, and I have no idea
what Montserrat’s faculty & students got out of it, but
to me it was totally worthwhile.
BTW, the catalog will be a print-on-demand deal - price to be determined.
You’ll know when I know!

Ugh of course I’m not at home for yet another type related event. I’ll just have to make up for it at TypeCon.
