Making my own Foundry

anonymous's picture

Hola Amigos!

Are you agree with the "one person foundry"
Industry? or is not easy at all to starting as one? No, i guess...

I know that the union makes the power, what you think?

I need Coffee, a computer, to buy Fontographer,
check the credit card stuff, Web publicity...

And nice font ideas..

The one main thing you should consider is using MyFonts to sell your stuff - it saves you a lot of time and headache, and you only lose 20% (not even counting the money you save elsewhere).

BTW, try tea instead.

Hola Miguel,

http://www.bigital.com/castellano/contacto.html
(donde dice "mailing list")

By the way, cual es tu mail?

{May I please practice my poor Spanish...}

> transandino

Cordiales saludos.

Hi

I've spent the last six months going through the process of setting up a foundy, after four years of running a free font site ( http://www.fontmonster.org ).

Initally I expected to launch in January - Febuary, we are actually launching in June. Things which I thought would be very easy turned in to a bit of a slog, like dealing with the bank (I am not a terrorist, I've banked with you for years), getting the back end of the site built in a way that allowed us to expand the site easily.

On the plus side, I have met some great designers who are now selling through the site, and who have been great over the past six months... and it is inspiring to see the work which these designers are creating. I am very pleased to have a site which showcases new talent along side established font designers. (14 designers, 9 countries, just under 100 fonts)

The site will beta launch later this week. And the stage which I'd expect most foundries would struggle with will start, the marketing. With 10,000 visitors a month to my fontmonster site, the marketing contacts I've built over 4 years with fontmonster and a bit of cash, its going to be a big job to get us noticed, with only one or two fonts I personally feel it would be impossible to be noticed.

Good luck if you do go ahead with it.

Jim

the "font testing friends" are here man!
The most succesfull one guy foundry comes from Matthew Bardram i guess...

1.-Ché Ramiro:

Well, my email is: screenfonts@hotmai.com, and you can see a couple of designs here, on the critique forums (bitmap) Please let me know what you think about the "three dots" post.

2.-Mr.Hrant

The challenge is create an unique concept of type design, like Fontomas or Matthew B. , visionary guys that are an example of independence and cuality. I mean a complete package. You cxan see the Fonts, and the using of the characters in action (House Industries makes a new school)

The Freedom of Design Patters are a good reference to the design comunity, the bad thing about big foundries are this...they dont show designs and the fonts in action(exept CSA images)

That`s the point, or not?

Hi, Miguel!

I am planning to launch a "one person foundry".
At the beginning this was not my idea, but is difficult to find partners...

I agree the concept, but the problem is offering more than 2 new fonts by year (I can't design more typefaces...)

And when you have partners the font's testing is easier...

Regards.
