Hi can someone tell me what this type is? from New York Times

It looks like Stymie Extra Bold or Memphis Extra Bold but it's not a match, the c is distinct.

My bet is that it’s a commissioned job like Matthew Carter's new Cheltenham for the same newspaper.

Is it the NYT Magazine? I believe they use a custom version of Stymie.

No, it is from NYTimes Newspaper, at the top of each section.

I believe it's the same typeface, as Stephen said, a custom version of Stymie. :)

Yes, since normal stymie has a 2-story a.

I think all the Times fonts are custom/proprietary.

Beton is similar too.
