meanwhile... we can start this reverse Type ID Pop Quiz into a Type Designer Mom Quiz...
i have the names of the fonts... however i would like to know who made them and if/where they can be purchased. Perpetua is easy... but it's the other ones that i am interested in knowing about..
and what do you Typophiles say about the space between O and W in the second row TOO SLO W
sorry.... S. Neil Fujita but i reckon there must be an explanation : )
I (newbie) only know the other easy one: Stymie was designed by Morris Fuller Benton. Elsner+Flake, URW, Bitstream and Linotype all have their versions of it. Railroad Gothic is distributed by Red Rooster and Linotype, and Eden by CastleType.
The Type ID Pop Quiz has been archived over here. The gang slowed down after David Hamuel's blurry serif spectacular. I don't know if the thread can get reactivated without moderator intervention.
Echo : by Peter Bell for Stephenson Blake (1956) Railroad Gothic : ? for Ludlow (c. 1900) Horizon : by K. F. Bauer & Walter Baum for Bauer (1925) Radiant : by R. H. Middleton for Ludlow (c. 1940) Eden : by R. H. Middleton for Ludlow (1934) Perpetua : by Eric Gill for Monotype (c. 1925-1930)
btw: veer was giving away red rooster's railroad gothic for free when you registered at veer.com (this was 2 weeks ago, don't know if they still offer it). lars
[sorry. but i was busy with a movie/film. however, i was reading here and there. i wanted to post new sample/new typeface. but - i didn't see the thread. so...so]
Although we're not advertizing it right now, it is still available as a free download on your account page (along with Letraset's Xylo), once you've registered and/or signed in.
Actually, Grant, I was working on my Radiant post (using Identifont mostly) before your post was here. Jack asked for purchase sources. Filling in the links with this forum's proprietary system takes some time though!
I've struck out finding a source for Echo or Horizon. How 'bout you?
>I've struck out finding a source for Echo or Horizon. How 'bout you?
Nope, I'm having no luck here either. I have a sneaking suspicion that neither of these faces have been digitized. Echo doesn't really do anything for me, but I'd love to see a fresh version of Horizon Light.
> I don't know if the thread can get reactivated without moderator intervention. Yo, Yves! What up wid dat?
> where's the thread? i have new sample [edit:] or, where's Yves? we want Yves.
Oy, I hear ya. Actually, Chesh is Type ID Pop Quiz mom. I'm having a look at the thread right now to check its status, and I'll see what I can do. Be back in a jiffy!
Seems like I got carried away a bit... Type ID Pop Quiz has been revived but somehow stays at the bottom of the list. I hope Joseph'n'Jared won't get mad at me for trying to do stuff that was never explained to me... whoops.
Help me out J'n'J. I hope I didn't break anything...

Radiant Heavy seems to correspond to E&F's Radiant Black,
but the R and C are different.
Designed by Robert Hunter Middleton, it's available from
URW and Linotype as well.
To complicate matters, Phil's Fonts has URW's version as
Radiant Heavy.
Steve Jackaman also digitized Radiant Heavy for Red
Rooster Types, available from Veer and Phil's Fonts.
Ooh, and looky here! Jackaman also digitized Radiant Heavy
Alternates, which appears to be your font. Available from
Veer and Phil's Fonts.
I hope all of those links point where they're supposed to.

Railroad Gothic by Kingsley/ATF Staff, 1906.
Available from Linotype, Paratype and Phil's Fonts.
Steve Jackaman's Red Rooster digitization available
from Veer and MyFonts.

Thanks for filling in the links Mike. I hadn't quite got that far yet.

No blame intended, David. You just managed to stump us all.
