Hi there, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of a typefaces that are suited to body copy for corporate literature. Previously the designs in question used arial, but they are keen to 'push the boat out'(!) and go for something a little more contemporary and funky. any suggestions?
I'm talking about a company involved in finance etc so a suitable typeface should evoke solidarity and dependability, not too 'fun' for want of a better word.
Any thoughts at all are greatly appreciated.

Gee, it's hard to know where to start. So why don't we just push the boat out in a few different directions and you tell me which comes closest to your shore:
Serif: Proforma | Slab: Caecilia | Sans: FF Strada

Thank you Stephen.
I would say Strada, only because I had a sans serif in mind, but on reflection a serif may just work. I would like to pursue the sans serif avenues first though.

Red27,
Perhaps you would be interested in checking out this thread http://typophile.com/node/15086 regarding the publication I'm working on which is also currently set in Arial. Hrant and Crossgrove had helpful comments.

Thank you for your replies. Neo Sans & Fresco Sans are very pleasing. What about Myriad? Do you think it is too similar to Arial?

No, but it's almost as overused as Arial. Be different!
Near Fresco Sans: Freight Sans | Fedra Sans | ITC Legacy Sans | Cronos Pro
On the Neo Sans side of the lake: Klavika | Sophisto | Zemestro

Heading for the shores of Klavika: Stainless | Morgan | Cholla

I have Stainless, never considered using it for body copy, nice for logo type use in the past. Worth a look. Thanks.

Errr... I beg to differ, my esteemed colleague, but in my humble opinion Linotype Compatil... well... how to say this? It's not exactly the best type system around, to put it very mildly.

I've licensed Sophisto and used it for the corporate identity of a regional hospital. It works brilliantly both as a display and a text face in a wide variety of applications, and has all the necessary bells and whistles to set even the most demanding corporate material.
And what about Galaxie Polaris? More generous in width, a nice tension in the superellipse curves, has all the feature-rich OpenType goodness, and it's very subtle in its modernity. A sure winner.

BTW You can trust Stephen on Klavika. Man does that one look good!

I guess I like it mostly because it tries so hard. Most people who don't like it don't like it for bad reasons, including envy. But I admit Yves can't be one of those people. Well, just look at it, at least - and don't play it too safe.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Hrant. ;^)
