I need a type that will look good as a giant "2" for the cover of my school's mag. The mag is mostly about architecture, though there is some art in it as well.
The name of the mag is "studio" and this is the second issue, hence the need for a great type for the 2.
I don't have a preference between serifs and sans serifs. I want something bold, but not screaming; serious, but not boring and definitely not distressed/destroyed.
Any thoughts?

Hmmmm...
so many twos, so little time.
Howzabout Zingha Bold Deco?

You could make a Roman numeral 2 out of two architectural columns?

Roman numeral II could be good.
Here's a very architectural 2:
Mercano Empire Regular

Here is Castellar as a Roman numeral:

and here as a figure:

Combining Chris's and Norbert's ideas, and
slapping on Maral's decidedly Doric serifs:
Call it a romarabic two!

I really like the merging of the two twos, Hrant.
Gee... I wonder, did we scare Macgirl5 away?
Macgirl might be a 5, but she's No. 2 in my book (even though I'm No. 6) ;-)

Hrant's 2 looks like an hourglass. And very architectural. Cool.

Hrant's 2 (II) gets my vote too (2).

a horizontally-flippd 'S',
perhaps set in whatever
'Studio' usually is?

The flipped S is an interesting, clever idea. Let me try that too.
thanks,

Thanks for all the 2's... :)
I thought I'd receive notification when someone replied to my post, and since I didn't get an e-mail I assumed that no one replied. But then, just out of curiosity, I checked the forum and there were lots of replies... this is Typophile after all.
I like the Mercano Empire Regular, but for some reason I keep wishing the 2 to be "fatter" instead of "taller", though only slightly. Maybe I can play around with it in Photoshop and see what I get. Or if you have another suggestion that is similar to that but "fatter", please let me know.
I considered the Roman numerals option, but I discarded it almost immediately as it would make the mag look unnecessarily "old" and kind of traditional. A giant "normal" 2 (in the tradition of Russian book cover designs) would deliver the message without being gimmicky. Castellar is gorgeous though.
I really liked Tiffany Heavy, though I'm concerned that the little curvy parts might clash with the otherwise "regular" layout. I'll try that one as well.
The "hourglass" two is very cool, but I can't use it... :( It reminds me too much of the Godfather font... I don't know why, it just does. It looks really cool, though.
thanks for your help,
macgirl.

Call me silly, but I don't like the idea of a typeface called Tiffany Heavy or Tiffany Fat :^/

How about Tiffany Phat?

Tiff,
There's always Tiffany Light!

If not Tiffany Light! then Tiffany Lamp?
I know, that was a shady remark :-)
