Text box line appears in PDF

david_leonard's picture

Has anyone any idea why, and this has happened before, when I creat a PDF from an InDesign file that the final PDF has a line where the outline of a textbox is, the line should not be there in the PDF. Ive attached an example, the line (box) around the word "Bolands Mill" should not be there.

Thanks for any help.

We can't help if we can't see it: your link is returning a 404 message.

My guess would be because it's generating a newer (+1.3) version of pdf, and therefore the transparency borders show. They do not print however – do the ones you're seeing?

Id post the picture again but I cant seem to find how to attach an image to a response. The problem only seems to happen with preview and not acrobat so Im sure your right about it generating a newer version of pdf.

Thanks alot.

This is a phenomenon called stitching and can often be seen in Acrobat if you have smoothing turned on in Preferences. Even with a PDF X1-A. Turn off smoothing, it goes away. I have heard of very few instances of these lines printing…

Indeed Paul, they will sometimes print, especially on injects – depending on the source application you're printing from, so look at your proofs carefully. I don't think there is a "fix" for this as far as I know. (and that's not far)

There's no fix I know of but in my experience (I've sent out a lot of ID pdfs) I haven't had a printing problem. But I do not have an inkjet…

Right, I've only had them print once or twice, out of maybe 2000, only on an inkjet*.
