World renowned calligrapher, expert and scholar on Ludovico degli Arrighi’s Chancery Cursive.
Author of Calligraphy’s Flowering, Decay and Restoration (Society of Typographic Arts Chicago, 1947). He was an a devout teacher and intructor of calligraphy at The Cooper Union and New York University.
He was a close friend and consultant to many famous type designers, and wrote the preface to Hermann Zapf’s Pen and Graver: Alphabets & Pages of Calligraphy.
In 1983 the Type Directors Club awarded Paul Standard with the TDC Medal, which is presented to individuals “who have made significant contributions to the life, art, and craft of typography.”
