I check the TYPECON site at least twice a day for the past month for new news. It seems were cutting it really close on schedules, right? I mean, A little over a month. I need to know workshops. If there is anything I want to attend before I give out my money. Dig?
If early registration is 5/16 and it is now 5/8, but "conference registration opens soon" isn't that cutting it a bit close? I see a list of featured speakers, but where is the workshop list? Pink Floyd knew it was all about money, so where is it? The news I mean. I want to register early but not be told I was too late with only 1 hour to go. Dig?
Hey, guys - just to clear something up - TypeCon2005 is at the end of July - not a little over a month away.
We're still working on the registration system and finalizing the workshops. Some great sessions have been developed at zero hour that must be worked into the schedule. The complete program schedule won't be finalized until later, but that's normal. The complete lineup is great. There'll be more speakers on the temp website in the next couple of days.
Have no fear - there will be at least 2 weeks of early registration. We'll move all dates appropriately once the registration system is live.
Sorry for any confusion, frustration, etc. People are volunteering their time, and sometimes it takes longer than anticipated to get things up and running.
Guaranteed, it's going to be a great show. Paul - I have a good feeling that we'll see you there! Gabriel and Eric - I hope you'll be joining us - I know you'll enjoy the show and learn a great deal.
Earlybird Registration will be pushed back once the site goes live. Or in other words, once the site goes live you will have two weeks earlybird registration.
Dearest Chris - yes, registration will be working for early bird. Once the reg goes live, there will be 2 weeks of early registration. Plenty of time :)

Another Question:
I'd like to join SoTA (in part for the discount for Typecon), but I'm confused since it seems their webpage hasn't been updated in a while. I guess my main question is this: "If I get a SoTA membership as they're set up now, will I be able to receive the discount for Typecon this year?"
Question for all of you TypeCon vets: Are there any special events associated with this thing that I need to look extra-presentable for, or can I come as I am in all of my casual glory?
I have literally no idea what to expect, except the little I saw in the photos from last year. What's the general rhythm to this thing?
TypeCon is for every level of dress. You can check out the TypeCon flickr group for photos and proof of this. You are going to get to shake hands with some of your idols, no doubt, so you don't want to go too casual -- IMHO -- but designer casual is completely acceptable.
i came straight from work last year so happened to have a suit on when i got in, but i felt overdressed some of the time, at least when i was wearing a tie. this year, i'll be all nude, all the time.
Typophile t-shirts were de rigueur at TypeCon last year. Erik Spiekermann sported a very sharp bespoke looking suit every day last year and didn't look over-dressed either.
Typophile tees are always appropriate, especially when paired with a lime green polyester leisure suit or Versace Oscar gown. They are also great for re-covering overheated type designers who've felt *driven* to partially disrobe in public.
All kidding aside, TypeCon is a comfy event. Dress to impress, but in a relaxed way. A lot of folks spiff up more at the evening events, but it's definitely designer casual. No one is going to diss you for going tieless at the Type Quiz/roller disco boogie night - as long as you keep your shirt on ;)
Question; when does main (non-workshop) programming start and end? I probably won't be able to get in before early-afternoon Friday, what am I missing?
Also, will there be a Sunday-evening event? (I really hated missing that last year.)
The workshops start on Wednesday and go through Thursday. Yes, the closing night soiree/party is on Sunday Night. But, don't beat yourself up as their are events/parties/soiree every night. ;^)
Thanks for the info. I asked about Sunday so I'd know whether to ask for Monday off. But if the Typophile Film Fest is Thursday night like last year, I might have to choose between them!
Bob, the Typophile Film Fest is on opening night (Thursday), like last year. This will be a very hot evening, so I recommend coming to that if you have to choose between Sunday and Thursdy.
Ah, the roller disco.... who knew that typophiles would be so interesteding skating???? Let me see if it's possible... Manhattan.... hmmmm. Anyone up for a trip to Queens or the Bronx to get your roller boogie on?

Seems there won't be a Typcon this year, at all.
But I heard in New York something called Typecon will take place.

But oh sweet goodness, how I dearly hope Max & John keep their clothes on at such an event.
