Thannhaeuser was the first art director of the well kown East German foundry Typoart.

In the pre WWII time he designed typefaces for the German foundries D. Stempel AG, Frankfurt a. Main; Schriftguss AG, Dresden and mainly for Schelter und Giesecke AG, Leipzig.
