Tick as 19C German proof-mark

Hi all,

Would anyone know the meaning of a tick when used as a proof-mark in late C19 German text?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

I assume it means rotated letter. It's called »vertatur«, so it's more a V than a tick.

Lars, interesting -- I've attached an example of the 'tick' (on the right with a super-script 6), the resolution is not great and it was not clear to me what was being corrected.
