Comic Neue : what you think ?

I guess most of you have seen the recent release of Comic Neue by Craig Rozynski.
I would be curious to have your opinion about it. What you think ?

I'm just wondering why something like this took so long!

Well, there was that Microsoft/monotype april fools a few years ago...

@Hrant it's ironic or you're serious ?
In fact, I've seen lot of criticism on my Twitter timeline (on the buzz purpose first but also on the design)
On my side I'm not a type designer but at first view, I like the modifications that have been done on the curves. The overall shapes looks like more balanced to me. And I find the angular version quite interresting.
Birdseeding your link doesn't work :/

No matter what I myself think of Comic Sans (for the record: I don't like it) it actually is surprising to me that more derivations haven't been done.

I like how it looks much cleaner and nicer than Comic Sans, but it's not an evolution of Comic Sans.

It fails to "improve" Comic Sans in the sense that loses Comic Sans's casual quality. It adds more femininity to it and takes itself a little bit too seriously to be considered Comic Sans.

Been thinking on it for a while, trying to get a feeling... Comic Sans out of school and on the job market.

Actually it's over 97% funded with about two days to go!

There was a spike, apparently. When I posted the link, it was just at 25%.

I agree with @tofu co. povnisttyu :)

I think it's strange how it didn't occur to me to design a "better" Comic Sans to at least partially fix the whole Comic Sans hysteria. I like the result. If people feel the need to use a wacky font for obituaries I would rather see Comic Neue than Comic Sans.

If Comic Neue is to replace Comic Sans though, I suspect Comic Neue will quickly be hated for the same reasons people started hating Comic Sans, which is primarily not the design itself but the context in which it's (ab)used. I think we would hardly have given Comic Sans any attention if it were only seen in the context it was designed for. My main irritation has always been the unlucky choice of using Comic Sans in various dubious contexts; the fact that it's not a beautiful font is a secondary issue. So, while Comic Neue is more formal than Comic Sans, the main issue actually hasn't been solved.

Oh Time, how naive you are...
