Irishmen! here comes what you’ve been waiting for (Hibernica)

Andreas Stötzner's picture

It took a while in the pipeline but now it’s there: I’m pleased to announce the release of Hibernica.
Hibernica is the ‘Irish sister’ of Lapidaria, on which design it has been based. So you have even the possibility to combine those two for a perfect harmonized look in multilingual settings.
All fonts contain the full set of dotted ḃ ċ ḋ ḟ ġ ṁ ṗ ṡ ṫ in upper- and lowercase and an additional set of a dozen celtic ornaments.
Thank you all typophiles who commented earlier upon single aspects of the design. I’m not Irish nor do I command any of the Gaelic languages, but, as a type freak, I enjoyed very much to dig into this matter. Maybe, you interested parties make something of it …

Really beautiful design! I have no use for this, but this is actually the first time would like to do some Gaelic typography. The only thing I do question is the sharp angle in the horizontal bar in /A. I might give that line a curve, but I'm not sure.

By the way, on the second line of the second picture you used the unicase /é instead of the lowercase /é in "heireann".

really lovely, but what about the Mná na hÉireann? I am sure they would love it too. :)

> but what about the Mná na hÉireann?

Would you care to explain … for a non-gaelic-speaking fellow?
Thanks both for the laurels, anyway.

Mná na hÉireann is Women of Ireland

> Mná na hÉireann is Women of Ireland

OK.
What does that mean – to me and the typeface? Did I miss something in the posters?
Did I set something wrong?
Thanks for enlighten me …

I think he's poking fun at your gendered thread title.

mike_duggan's picture

yes you could change the title of the thread to

Irishmen & Women! here comes what you’ve been waiting for (Hibernica)
:)
I really like the design.

Oh now I see thanks.

I forgot to mention: this *for gents only* of course.

I have to hand it to you Andreas, you sure know how to narrow a market! ;-)

It all boils down to *focusing*, you know

I remember meeting Dermot at an ATypI conference. I called him McGuinness by mistake. :-/

I know of McGuinne’s treatise, unfortunately I don’t possess it.

Sales are lousy so far but I hope that this develops. Do you know of any Irish-special typo forum or community to which I could adress?
All existing typefaces redrawn into Irish moulding – what a prospect ;-)

mike_duggan's picture

I don't really know any Irish forum. I thought it might be popular in the US.

in any case, best of luck with the sales.
