Hello people. Now, I am a student with the old 'design a
brand, mark, logo for your country' brief. Have any of
you been to New Zealand? Do any of you live in New
Zealand? I would really like to know your opinions
reagarding what constitutes a quintessential New
Zealand typeface or trademark. Thank you.

the silver fern and the colour black (as in all the sports teams ..all blacks, black caps, black socks....) the colours teal, green & blue. the koru, the err kiwi, these we see everywhere, and seem to be the default icons when designing a logo for anything new zealand.
You could try looking at the native plants and birds (other than the kiwi) as these have many distinctive aspects to them.
maps of the world with new zealand in the centre.
as for a new zealand typeface, I will have to think.

So sorry about the America's Cup... was getting the Blackheart newsletters and was deeply impressed by the kiwi's loyal, hard-living, strong sense of nationalism.
Whatever you do, should convery that... strength.
