A competition

Typophile has launched The University of Canberra Logo Competition - an international challenge to the world’s finest logo designers to capture the style, spirit, prestige and character of The University of Canberra.

The winning design, which will receive one pint of Portland's finest beer at TypeCon 2013, will be selected by a jury of distinguished Typographers and Designers.

What's the entry fee on this one?

Si_Daniels's picture

Glad you asked! Entry fee is 2 pints of Portland's best ale.

I think this leads to another competition: to decide on Portland’s best ale! :)

Or we could just get down to brass-tacks and have a proper drinking contest. Bunch of lightweights.

That said, I’m ethically obligated to point out the relationships between design competitions and speculative work. The tip of the iceberg — http://www.no-spec.com/faq/

I will volunteer to be on the jury.

What will ensure high-quality results in this competition is that all jurors must consume the entry fees immediately before the judging.

Sadly Typophile has decided to withdraw its sponsorship of this contest due to its hardline policy around no-spec competitions. For this reason the organizers have been scrambling for a new sponsor, and can officially announce that Adobe of Australia has stepped up to the plate. Unfortunately this means the entry fee has to be raised by 40 to 50%.

As long as somebody fosters it.

Clearly this is a gag from Si—but since it's inexplicably sparked some controversy, let me clarify. Typophile never sponsored or withdrew sponsorship of this competition. The 2 pint entry fee, followed by the one pint award is telling; its clear who really benefits from such competitions.

All he had to do was wait 4 days - then we could've made real fun of the controversy theorists.

Sounds like the 'test should be XXXX-rated...
