We are happy and proud to announce that we have received two awards in this years ED-Awards competition. Our multi-purpose typefamily Adelle was given Gold and Karmina Sans won Bronze in the category "Original Typeface". Veronika collected the nice but very heavy trophy at the awards ceremony in Rotterdam this past month. Many thanks to the jury and Ed-Awards!

Kade is a display/semi display sans family of fonts based on vernacular lettering photographed over the last ten years in and around the harbours of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Hence the name Kade that translates into English as ‘quay’, also the name of its designer.
Kade grew slowly from many different ideas and elements. The letters reflects the industrial method in which they are cut for the side of ships from large steel plates. Frequently subtleties of curves are compromised due to the cutting tools and the fact engineers are in control. Kade’s italics have an experimental character and were produced in an unorthodox manner by rotating 8 degrees, rather than slanting the roman characters, a method sometimes employed in shipyards.
P22 and the International House of Fonts proudly announce the release of the Foxtrot Pro Family.
The P22 Foxtrot Pro family of fonts is the latest design by Norwegian type designer Torleiv Sverdrup for IHOF. The design of Foxtrot is inspired by the lively ballroom dance of the same name. It is a transitional antiqua with rounded serifs that features ligatures, smallcaps, oldstyle numerals and full Central European support for those with applications that support OpenType features. The companion, Foxtrot Sans, is a sans serif version with a little more jazzy expression. Both fonts are great for text and display.

The bâtarde flamande is a style of writing used predominantly in France and present-day Belgium in the 15th century. The style shares an ancestry with other writing styles traditionally grouped as blackletter—fraktur, textura, rotunda, and schwabacher. It had evolved, however, into an æsthetic far removed from its relatives.
While high-contrast in nature, the bâtarde flamande is more delicate and dynamic than the austere and condensed fraktur and textura. Quick curves lack the rigidity of the schwabacher and rotunda. Flair through swashes is thematic, as are the variations in letterforms.

Sirba, a seriffed typeface family with a friendly personality, was conceived especially for the demands in complex text environments like dictionaries, academic texts annual reports, novels and magazines. It has many design features that were particularly designed with Sirba's purpose in mind. Because of its open counters, the large x-height, short ascenders and descenders, this typeface conveys a pleasant reading experience and high legibility even in small sizes. Sirba is a low-contrast typeface, contemporary but with a classical touch, revealing its beauty in design details, such as the asymmetrical bottom serifs, curved bracketing and calligraphically reminiscent terminals.
The newly redesigned, by Marek Pistora, Czech magazine FONT invited José and Veronika to speak amongst other things about their beginnings, influences, approach to design and way of collaboration. The well designed four-page interview also shows some samples of our typefaces in use, such as in various newspapers and books.
