Will — Rich & I were discussing our “desert island typefaces” just before he went off to the Production Manager’s meeting in Chicago. We sort of had the same ones, but our real conclusion was that they were fonts we new how to use. And I think that’s the key; while you need to appreciate them, you go to them because you now how to make them work.

Thank you both for replying, I’m grateful. :) - Lux Sans is very close but after comparing Plume in Bold, it certainly seems identical. That’s fantastic, really, thanks again.

thanks for all the responses,

i am in the process of writing this up at the minute, so please no more questionaires. in response to cumaso, yes i am conducting a wider range as possible with my survey.

so far it seems that fruitiger and meta are considered very masculine, and plain with caslon and garamond are seen as distinctly feminine, traditional and fancy.

the light weight helvetica is considered to be much more feminine, warm than the bold.

interestingly it also seems that none of the fonts register as being eithe rhappy or sad.

The “i” in “Cir” looks like it was taken from an italicized “i” and rotated to fit in the graphic.

I’m not sure if all those fonts really go together though. If you had picked Sun before I assume Georgia isn’t your body copy web font? What’s it for?

Michael: Good to hear from you and we should catch up.

I’ve completed my first year in the MFA Design program at VCU (it went fast) and have enjoyed the challenge. For me personally it’s been great to delve into design communication with images, objects, sequential projects etc. Faculty like John Malinoski have made the hard work required interesting; who you will have depends on the rotation/availability for that semester. The range of thesis/creative projects from my class is impressive, we got to read Meggs’ essays in Seminar this spring, and I’m happy to be in Richmond.

RISD is obviously a great school.

Either choice you make will be a good one.
