Tee hee :D
i enjoyed doing that one. the original picture was pretty funny though I had to search 'ritual' rather than death or Maya for that one.

Couldn't resist giving this one more go, this time featuring this irresistible Wikipedia Title (it's actually a title from the Duffy series, hee), this irresistible image from Life, and my newest acquisition, the wonderful, and sometimes a little bit scary, Dante.

This page just sounded like a great sci-fi novel.
The image could be improved with reduced glare, but it was the best I could find.

kitsunenoir pointed the way here, though I wasn't unaware of typophile and it’s brilliance.
Couldn’t resist the terms of this battle, and even less so after getting “bring the pain” from wikipedia, though I had to shorten the LIFE search to just “pain” to get any results.
Fonts are Avenir and Bell MT.

Wong Tei Tung (Chinese: 黃地峒, Wong Dei Tong) is an area of Palaeolithic settlement in Hong Kong. It is located near Sham Chung (深涌), beside Three Fathoms Cove of Sai Kung Peninsula.
The findings were discovered by the Hong Kong Archaeological Society.

EDIT: Uh, I just saw that it's actually pretty tasteless because in the original photo the man behind the target is Bobby Kennedy. That shows what can happen if you just work away without looking left or right. If it causes any offence feel free to take it down.

I don't want to offend anyone but, but is this a joke? Most of these covers are frigthening at most. Can people apply some self-criticism before posting such atrocities. I know it's question of taste, but some of these covers are just plain awful.
16 Dec 2008 — 7:59am
Name your top-five, most awful and give some constructive crit.

Sorry, I do not want to be the troll of the forum, but a cover is not just typography, but also a good sense of composition and colour.
Like Carnival Splendor by Bendy, Artificial Imagination by cdn, Observational Error by Glitch, Kirribilli by Dantho... I just don't know where to start. Do these people acually practise as designers? You can make old fashionied or conservative design but some things are just plain wrong. The type is just slapped on top of the images with absolutely no sensitivity. Something like this discredits you to actually say anything about typography. Unfortunately it's only a reflection of the visual cacophony that plagues any bookshop.
PS I'm a long time lurker, but I just had to say something today.
