// ABOUT TYPOPHILE TYPE BATTLES
This is your chance to stretch your type muscles on a weekly basis. You have one week to create and submit your entry. Anyone may submit a design response to the challenge. You may enter as often as you wish. Post anytime. Critiques and comments are welcome throughout the game, from participants and spectators alike. Smack talk is encouraged.
As with any street battle, there is no panel of judges and no prize — only the ability to call yourself the best on the block.

Man, no part of the title I got will return any results in the photo archive! Badness.
I'll give it a proper go a bit later.
Great theme by the way. I'd seen this done with album covers, always meant to have a go.

Thanks Andi. Yup, the Album Covers battle we had a while back received a ton of great submissions. Revisit it here for inspiration: http://typophile.com/battle20
As for not getting search results, give it a second try with another random title and see what you come up with.

I love these ones too.
Here's one to start us off...

I got Gas exchange so here's a couple covers plus the original image.
Sorry about the second cover it's white, but the dimension is the same as the first.

I got a tough one! What the hell is SMARRC1 supposed to be about?
To be honest it reminded me of one of those beautiful late 80s/early 90s computer manuals, so that's where the OCR came from. Couldn't find a very suitable photo, so it ended up being a weird crop. We can do that, right? Ended up looking something like one of those William Gibson reprints!
Am I allowed another go?

Long time since I've been active here. Recently got laid off and figured the type battles would be a great exercise for me.

Wow, I really like what you did there Dave. I feel ashamed that I threw mine together so quickly after seeing that!

I had another go. It's not clever, but I had to use this photo. Couldn't find the right font, so I used my own handwriting. Are there any rules I still have left to break? I could probably look into it tomorrow :)

That's right folks. Obligatory green.
I think this might be the first time I've ever posted any work on typophile. It's a strange but liberating sensation.

What do you do with “Nebraska, Indiana?”
I think you just answered that question quite satisfactorily!
Some of these are really nice.

This is quite hard as one in every 67 clicks actually gave me an image in google life and that image was to small to make a book cover.

I was dealt:
Bethel (Ugaritic: bt il, meaning "House of El" or "House of God",[1] Hebrew: בֵּית אֵל, also transliterated Beth El or Beth-El) was a border city described in the Old Testament . . . A second biblical Bethel, in the southern Judah, is mentioned in Joshua (8:17 and 12:16), and seems to be the same as Bethul or Bethuel, a city of the tribe of Simeon.
The majority of Life photos for Bethel was Bethel, NY, and Woodstock, photographed by Bill Eppridge. So I went ahead for a hefty, landscape, coffeetable monograph.
I'm not a big fan of psychedelia when it comes to design/art and purposely stayed away from all that as we're coming up on 2009, yet I didn't want it to be TOO modern. I also just wanted to keep it subtle and sophisticated in hoping to match the muted feel of the photographs. Poplar seemed to match the ever-so-slight softness of the film as well. But you don't care about all that, do ya?. I'll shut up.

This was actually 4 images. The pig and the old guy portrait were from LIFE. I had to do one search on Capitalist and another on Piglet to get any images from Life. The gold frame and velvet wall texture were from Google. Everything was heavily Photoshoped and colorized.
The type is Copperplate and Bickham Script.
