Oh boy. xD
17.Nov.2008 3.07pm
When it says "stretch your type muscles on a weekly basis", didn't Type Battle 27 last about 4 months? In fact is that over yet? I don't look much any more because it takes so long to load the page with all the great potential Typophile logos.

wonder how it would look if the i-t was the 11?
17.Nov.2008 4.15pm
Let's get this one out of the way:
17.Nov.2008 5.07pm
Pica Pusher, that's hilarious.
17.Nov.2008 5.33pm
What do you do when the bottom is dropping out?
ChrisL
17.Nov.2008 5.35pm
Brian,
That kind of 11 reminds me too much of the 9-11 license plates. :-(

17.Nov.2008 5.42pm
I motion that we not allow Chris (dezcom) to post again until he designs a mark/logotype to help them succeed!

I guess since they are closing so many stores the should be considered a township or village instead of a city : )

OK, Joe. This is supposed to help them:

Tried to go with the circuit board schematic vibe while keeping it as simple as possible.
...and here's an afterthought with the double c... I might like it more, but it may look too much like the closed caption logo.
18.Nov.2008 2.21am
You ideas, GJ, even suggest a business strategy: They could pick up the components market that Radio Shack has abandoned.
18.Nov.2008 3.40am
Talking about getting things out of the way
18.Nov.2008 4.52am
I wonder who (what) is going to be next.
18.Nov.2008 9.30am
lol is that the monster from doctor who?
18.Nov.2008 9.39am
Closed Caption uses a CC inside an rounded rectangle TV shape and Creative Commons both use the circle CC mark.
18.Nov.2008 10.42am
a bunch of rather obvious ones:
18.Nov.2008 12.03pm
Circuit City always ripped me off. Its bankrupt because its prices were worse than Best Buy. That said, sorry to anyone who lost work/money from their bankruptcy.
18.Nov.2008 12.15pm
"I have 1 billlllllllion dollars"

Running away from the red—probably not wise.
19.Nov.2008 5.11pm
jupiterboy>>> love that!!! What’s that nice font you are using?
19.Nov.2008 6.05pm
We have a client from Napster (Napster was just acquired by Best Buy) in the office. She got a kick out of Pica Pusher's Best Buy version.

More lettering than logo. Probably made it a bit too quickly. But oh well :P
20.Nov.2008 10.16am
It has a friendly look, Jelmar. Why are the caps so tall?
ChrisL
20.Nov.2008 11.57am
Good question ;)
I'll try a version with shorter ones later today.
20.Nov.2008 3.15pm
Maybe more like this then.
20.Nov.2008 3.40pm
Yes! it interacts better with the i dots as if it were connecting a circuit.
ChrisL
20.Nov.2008 3.55pm
Flanney.I really like yours something clean about it but I don't think it would really work well for a corporation. I think it is a really clean design maybe for a blog or something!
Nothing is going to save Circuit City so cool Idea I like.
20.Nov.2008 4.10pm
jelmar and jupiter boy, liking those!
20.Nov.2008 4.30pm
Nobody has explored the "city" in Circuit City yet? C'mon it's a city of circuits!
DOGG : : :
20.Nov.2008 4.56pm
^ that depends on how literal you want to be
What is the difference visually, between a subway map and an electronic diagram?
20.Nov.2008 5.14pm
Then you go for it, DOGG! :-)
ChrisL
20.Nov.2008 6.50pm
Quick sketch. Waiting to see that subway map concept!
20.Nov.2008 6.54pm
Thanks Joe! Can I use you as a reference when I apply to work the Best Buy register? ;)

This makes the point.
20.Nov.2008 8.12pm
Thank you for your comments and criticisms Chad, fair call on it not working for a corporation like Best Buy - totally agree. I might have a go at redoing it with that in mind
21.Nov.2008 6.04am
@ pica pusher, I like it.
@ fbrccn, I like the obvious and simple logos. Only they remind me fairly too much of Target.
21.Nov.2008 7.02am
Actually, if you remember the old Continental Can Co. logo, it will be even more so.
ChrisL
21.Nov.2008 9.11am
I decided maybe they should try the Walmart route...
The green border was an accident from the canvas sizing, but I thought it was funny enough to include it as a variant.
Peace,
JT
21.Nov.2008 9.38am
Love that, JT!!!!!
Change their slogan to match the new flowery campaign:
“CircuitCity, now in Cinnamon Breeze scent!”
21.Nov.2008 9.45am
Hey, might as well... :þ
Peace,
JT
21.Nov.2008 4.54pm
@jt_the_ninja
It seems like a soft version of Circuit City, I like the color scheme it is energetic.
21.Nov.2008 5.20pm
Please don't judge on its ability to work as a properly functioning circuit
21.Nov.2008 9.54pm
LOVE THAT... is that DIN?
22.Nov.2008 2.35am
First try, others will follow.
22.Nov.2008 4.42am
The next one.
22.Nov.2008 9.52am
Okay, I want to see a city of circuits tho. Keep going guys et gals.
22.Nov.2008 7.59pm
Jupiterboy-
Why do you think avoiding red is such a bad idea?
I would suggest keeping the red in--or a shade of red--as a secondary or tertiary color in the overall brand.
In times of recession, as we are now, red tends to take on new meaning in the eye of an average American consumer, and as such, red would not be a good choice for a primary color.
For the sake of a re-brand and presenting the consumer with the idea that circuit city isn't completely new (after all, they're still 'circuit city'), keeping red in some way would be advisable. It would certainly help in positioning the brand with longevity in mind- which is something recession-scared consumers highly value.
22.Nov.2008 8.25pm
Oh, I imagine red or blue would be the way to go. I was joking a bit as a change like that would presumably be shot down because as A.) to much of a departure, and B.) a color already in use by the major competitor.
22.Nov.2008 8.50pm
sasapetrova-
The word 'circuit' is hanging out by itself, completely lost in space. I feel like it should be connected somehow.
jupiter-
I liked your use of the 'i' dots and the representation of a circuit- I think they worked well together. You should try doing the outer box in a shade of red- perhaps a crimson color and leave the text a complementary shade of blue or even gray. Maybe vice versa?
23.Nov.2008 4.22am
OKs. Fruit Juicy version for Cole. Note: per previous posts the detail is intended to evoke a subway map as much as a circuit. I realized the similarity and that's what drew me into the competition. Maybe someone can do a better job of bringing this out. Also, I usually like to do something that will work in one color, say a solid and a screen of that solid, for the low end—boxes and such.
23.Nov.2008 11.39am
A circuit like logo this time.
24.Nov.2008 5.25am
I think sasapetrova wins...so far.
Peace,
JT
24.Nov.2008 12.08pm
Another DIN City
Umm... is the battle over?
24.Nov.2008 5.18pm
A toast! May this battle inject all struggling consumer electronics retailers with prosperity in the coming punch-up of black Friday and the onslaught of the holiday shopping season.
24.Nov.2008 5.30pm
Or, to the long overdue consolidation of the consumerist nightmare of too much too cheap too often. May the weak fail and not be bailed out, and may our children not be slaves to our debt.
25.Nov.2008 7.50am
jupiterboy, when we go pitch your logo to the CC boys, I'll do the talking, okay? ;-)
25.Nov.2008 8.06am
Absolutely. Please keep my mouth shut as much as possible.
27.Nov.2008 1.24am
I like Boros’s too!
Good job every one.
15.Dec.2008 2.23pm
JupiterBoy:
If that logo was on a pack of gum, I'd buy it.
