// THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE:
// Design two ligatures for Cooper Black and set them in context. Bonus points for any ligature no one's seen before.

Didn't finish in time for qualification due to birthday festivities (friday deadlines? sheesh guys!), but if it's all the same: two ligs and a swash for good measure.

It's been a while since I've been here at typophile. Just found out about the type battles. Great idea! Here's a stab...even though it's too late.

Nobody puttin' down votes for their faves, huh?

Here go mine, in no particular order:

1) Grant Hutchinson's di and ct ligatures (Thicken the stem on that d and it'll be perfect.)
2) Tim D's gorgeous qui and Qui
3) Glen Villegas's ctfi and stfu -- Bonus points for the stfu being usable as an entity in and of itself! ^_~
4) Brendan Callahan's spectacularly swashy In & Out
5) Jan Sandvik's mayday, although I'd want to see a couple of those strokes thickened...
6) My own anxious entry. Big ups to me! ^_~

And although my preference is for ligatures that maintain letterspacing, much love and respect to:
7) Chris's playful double g
8) Islam Elsedoudi's Cthulu-esque RR.

But I gotta give top honors to Aaron Carambula.

Those ligatures (and swash) in "sticky" are sheer perfection, man.

Thanks Jim, I really appreciate it

I guess you're right, a battle ought to be both riffing (which i think the community is awesome at) and judging. In that spirit I would like to give an award for inventiveness to Picapusher, it's sort of an un-ligature, taking apart a letter to reconstruct it contextually. rock on man.

Bated breath for the next battle

I feel remiss for not applauding my friend Kris's both lovely and humorous "Dezcom diss". Congrats Kris for putting the fun back and chimin' the rhymin' :-)

If I ever get down to New Zealand, I will have to buy you a cold one.
